Rod Stewart brought his One Last Time Tour to Paso Robles, and if you truly believe this was his last outing, he hit it out of the park. Stewart hit the stage with “Infatuation,” while strutting across the stage peacocking as only he can with his signature shag still intact and his flashy yet classy wardrobe. No sad goodbyes here as the band made the night a Party from the get go. “Tonight I’m Yours” followed which complimented the opening song as an effective one two punch to get the crowd hyped.

The night was not without slower, emotional moments though. “The First Cut is The Deepest,” “Tonight’s The Night,” & “Forever Young,” was a trifecta that brought a sentimental & heartfelt silence to the sold out crowd.

“Young Turks” and “Maggie May” lit things up again as Stewart’s band, which includes 4 very attractive female backing vocalists who interact with Rod and each other who are a show unto themselves. The solid backing musicians as well as the singers got to showcase their talents throughout the night with solos and jams. Chaka Khan’s 1978 Classic “I’m Every Woman” and Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Proud Mary,” was a fun display of talent, which gave Rod a short break from which he returned with a fresh wardrobe change.

“Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” took things to another level altogether with a Disco Display not seen since the 70’s, and Rod and the background singers kicked and tossed soccer balls into the audience that were signed by Stewart, no doubt a great keepsake for the lucky fans who caught one.

The regular set ended with “Stay With me,” from The Faces in which Rod was a member of during the early 70’s and he penned the song with then bandmate Ron Wood. The band then returned from an encore to close the night out with a version of The O’Jays song “Love Train.”

If this was the last time we’ll see Rod Stewart in Paso Robles or anywhere else, we can look back on the evening not as a sad goodbye but as a celebration with fond memories of a singer, who is 80 years old but still has a gleam in his eyes that delivered a night of classic songs with humor, soul and flash.
